#NurseCampMLHD

Twenty Year 10 students from across the Riverina experience life as a nurse at the yearly #nursecampMLHD in Narrandera. The initiative, a first for Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD), is aimed at showcasing nursing as a career and to provide information about education pathways.

Hosted by Narrandera Hospital, #nursecampMLHD culminates in a presentation to students to their parents, peers, hospital staff and the wider comunity.

#nursecampMLHD is a joint partnership between MLHD, Training Services NSW and COMPACT.

“The camp aims to create an “immersive” nursing experience for Year 10 students across the district, giving them insight into the nursing profession and wider health industry,” said Director Nursing & Midwifery Karen Cairney.

“Students will learn basic skills required for hand hygiene, teamwork and communication, patient assessment, basic life support, injuries, wound care and hazardous manual tasks,” Ms Cairney said.

Education pathways for careers in nursing include Assistant in Nursing (AIN), Enrolled Nurse (EN), Registered Nurse (RN) or Midwife (RM).
