On the 25th July 2017, COMPACT Inc hosted Industry Experience Tours targeting students in Years 9 – 12 from Griffith High, Marian Catholic College & Wade High.
Each tour was for a particular industry where Griffith businesses and professionals offered a behind the scenes tour, showcasing career pathways, employment, work experience and training opportunities in their industry area.
The Manufacturing, Metals and Engineering Tour went behind the scenes of Flavourtech, A & G Engineering and Collier & Miller. Students were also taken on a tour of Griffith TAFE automotive facilities.
The Agriculture Tour showcased Yenda Producers Co Op, Murray Cod Australia and Casella Wines.
The Aged Care & Allied Health tour toured Headspace, Zirilli Pharmacy, The Pioneer Lodge and were treated to a tour of Griffith TAFE Nursing facilities and talk from Teresa Walton Nursing Teacher at Griffith TAFE and guest speakers Jodie Clinton a podiatrist from Griffith Foot Clinic and Annalyse Carroll from Griffith Physiotherapy & Sport Injury Centre.
The Tourism & Hospitality tour showcased Quest Apartments, Griffith City Art Gallery, Guest Speaker Karly Sivewright Griffith City Council Events Coordinator and Limone Dining.
The Automotive tour went behind the scenes at Dom’s Motors, Serafin Ag Pro and Hartwigs.
At lunch time students were treated to guest speakers Erin Cotter Trainee Engineer at Griffith City Council, Jackson Coles former IT TVET Student, Nathan Rowley former construction TVET student and Frank Nardi Head Automotive teacher at Griffith TAFE.
The speakers who were once in the same spot as students, spoke about their individual career path and answered any questions the students may have had.
COMPACT have received feedback from students, parents, teachers and local businesses who were involved thanking them for the incredible opportunity some students who participated in the tours have already approached businesses regarding work experience, apprenticeship opportunities and weekend work.
