Shear Future has been running in some capacity since 2008. The program is run by TAFE NSW Riverina Institute – Primary Industries Centre with assistance from COMAPCT and in 2014 was supported by Australian Wool Innovation Limitied (AWI).
We were fortunate enough to run 2 separate schools in 2014 throughout Terms 1 & 2. The students attend TAFE Primary Industries Centre for 2 weeks and at the end of the two weeks, they will have gained a Statement of Attainment Introduction to Wool Harvesting.
Students are trained for employment in the shearing industry and they learn the basic skills and correct techniques of shearing and crutching sheep, wool handling procedures and wool quality improvement.
