Overview

This forum has been developed as a ‘whole of community’ approach which brings education providers, mental health service providers, community, local council and government together with young people to initiate some positive change to Youth Mental Health issues across the Riverina.

Developed by a regional steering committee, comprising representatives of NSW Dept Education & Communities, Catholic Schools Office, Riverina Headspace, TAFE NSW, Charles Sturt University, NSW Police, Community Mental Health, Intereach, Richmond Fellowship NSW, Campbell Page Youth Connections and COMPACT Partnership Brokers; the Youth Mental Health forum promises to be a positive way to promote well-being in our young people in schools and the broader community. This will be achieved by empowering youth to change negative perceptions and develop positive ways to improve communication and understanding among their peers.

An important outcome of the day is that students developed an action plan to take back to their school, to implement change and assist in destigmatising the subject of mental health among their peers and families.
