The Lawn Mower Tractor Pull is an innovative program, originating at Finley High School in 2007, designed to provide opportunities for students, teachers and local industry to work together to design and modify ride on lawn mowers to compete against other teams under the auspice of the Australian Tractor Pull Association.

The program is designed to engage students “at risk” of disengaging from school and to attract young people into the automotive and metals and engineering industry.

The goals of the project are to:

  • Build strong and ongoing relationships between industry, local businesses and schools
  • Promote careers in automotive and metals and engineering to students and to school community as a whole
  • Provide students with interactive hands on activities to equip them with skills for the future.

COMPACT were approached in 2011 by Joe Cottam of Cottam Engineering to encourage schools across the Central Murrumbidgee to become involved in this innovative project. To date Kooringal High School and Mount Austin High School have participated/competed in this event held at the Henty Field Days each year.
